Comprehensive man-entry inspection of a culvert within a vital flood storage basin. This work forms part of an ongoing annual maintenance programme to ensure the long-term functionality of this critical flood defence system.

Challenges:

  • The culvert plays an integral role in a flood mitigation scheme designed to protect the local community from flooding along the River Yarrow.
  • A 600m earth embankment engineered to withstand extreme weather events.
  • A flood storage basin capable of holding up to 1.3 million cubic metres of water, the equivalent of 520 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
